In pursuit of continuous product and quality improvement, Bekaert pays a lot of attention to its professional R&D center.

The R&D center is involved in cutting edge development of sputter hardware, coating techniques, coating stacks & coating applications.

For fundamental research, Bekaert has developed a close working relationship with scientists from several universities and industrial laboratories. Its participation and leadership in governmental funded projects is a further proof of this commitment.

The R&D department has also its own well-equipped analytical laboratory, which includes:

• a full range of test rigs (e.g. lab sputter coater),
• an extensive range of analytical equipment to measure the composition of the sprayed materials,
• a tribology lab to test wear resistance
• equipment for testing corrosion resistance and other properties of industrial coatings.

The symbiosis of long term experience with technological know how and sophisticated lab equipment, result in superior products tailored to the specific customer needs. Having a leading R&D program is reflected in our many new inventions and patents.
