Care for environment is a priority within the Bekaert’s sustainability management.Our commitments towards preserving the environment are:
1. Legal compliance with proactive approach
Business shall be conducted in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, encouraging similar environmental standards from third parties involved. Changes in legislation shall be proactively followed up to plan future adaptations to our processes, equipment and products. Most economic solutions shall be strived for with implementation of best available techniques.
2. Minimal impact
Operations shall be conducted aiming at minimal impact on both internal and external environment.
3. Rational use of resources and energy
Operations shall be directed towards rational use of resources, packaging and energy, and application of recycling and recovery techniques aiming at reducing waste. This approach will result in the prevention of pollution and in the continuous improvement of our environmental performance.
4. Commitment with stakeholders
Engaging a constructive dialogue with our stakeholders is a key concern. Within Bekaert Group, we are committed to provide stakeholders with the most accurate information on environmental questions, and to establish sound relationships based on consultation, respect and transparency.
Employees, our closest stakeholders, shall be informed and trained in relevant matters, to encourage their commitment to the environment at work, at home and in their communities.
5. Technology and products
Research and investment shall include environmental sustainable considerations in the development of processes, equipment and products in order to achieve prevention of pollution and continuous improvement of our environmental performance. Environmental impacts of the products during their life cycle shall be evaluated.
Environmental policy and its results are discussed at Bekaert Group Executive meeting and policy corrections are applied where necessary. Our environmental policy thus receives attention at the highest level.
