Bekaert is expanding rapidly in Asia Pacific, especially in China. Today, we have 40 plants and offices spread over China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Singapore and Australia.
The first steps in this region are set in Japan in 1971. Afterwards the activities expand into Australia, China and India. The real expansion comes with the booming China market conditions in the 1990s and more manifestly during the last decennium. Bekaert set up production platforms for steel cord and various wire products in Chongqing, Huizhou, Jiangyin, Qingdao, Shenyang, Suzhou, Weihai, Wuxi, Xinyu and Shanghai. In 2008, we achieved a tire cord production capacity of over 300 000 tons, an achievement which took us 50 years to complete in the rest of the world. Also in Indonesia and India Bekaert is growing steadily.
Just like in other regions, the production and sales platforms are organized geographically so that Bekaert can respond swiftly to customer demands. We offer them a broad portfolio of amongst others steel cord, special cord constructions, advanced wires, sawing wire, Dramix® steel fibers and filter media.
