Master of Laws Bernard van de Walle de Ghelcke (°1947) is Of Counsel at Linklaters LLP (Brussels office), after having been a partner of Linklaters until 2009. He specializes in European law and competition law. Bernard van de Walle was admitted to the Brussels bar in 1977 and became a partner of the Belgian law firm Van Ryn, Van Ommeslaghe & Faurès in 1979 where he practiced corporate and commercial law as well as antitrust law, before joining De Bandt, van Hecke & Lagae (now Linklaters) in 1988 to become head of the EU and competition law department. Bernard van de Walle is a professor at the College of Europe (Bruges) since 1994; he is also a member of the Executive Board of the College’s Global Competition Law Centre of which he became president in 2010. He was Chairman and member of the Board of the Belgian Association for European Law. Between 2004 and 2010 he chaired the editorial Board of Tijdschrift voor Belgische Mededinging / Revue de la Concurrence Belge.
Mr van de Walle de Ghelcke obtained a law degree at the Catholic University of Louvain (1970) as well as a special law degree in European Law (1973). He also holds a special degree in Economic Law from the Free University of Brussels (1972).
