Lady Judge (°1946) began her career in New York, practizing law and becoming a partner of Kaye, Scholer, Fierman, Hays and Handler in 1978. She was appointed youngest ever US Securities and Exchange Commissioner in 1980. She moved to Hong Kong in 1983 as the first woman Main Board Director of a London merchant bank, Samuel Montagu & Co Ltd, returning to New York in 1987 as Senior Vice President and Group Head of Bankers Trust Company, responsible for all international private banking business. In 1993 she moved to the United Kingdom as the first woman Main Board Director of News International plc and thereafter led buy-ins of Scotia Haven Food Group and Whitworths Food Group Ltd and founded Private Equity Investor plc.
She became Chairman of the Pensions Protection Fund in 2010. She is Chairman Emeritus of the UK Atomic Energy Authority, becoming a director in 2002 and Chairman from 2004 to 2010. She is Co-Chairman of the UK/US Task Force on Corporate Governance. From 2003-2006 she was Deputy Chairman of the UK Financial Reporting Council. She is a Member of the Governing Body of the Ditchley Foundation and a Member of the Trilateral Commission.
Barbara Thomas Judge received her B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and Juris Doctor with honors from the New York University Law School.
