During 2006, Bekaert repurchased 636 656 of its own shares at an average price of € 88.72, of which 627 766 were canceled. During the exercise periods, 44 350 subscription rights were exercised and 44 350 new shares of the company were created. The number of shares decreased from 21 530 195 to 20 946 779. The total number of VVPR strips increased from 3 807 785 to 3 852 135 as a consequence of the conversion of subscription rights.

During 2005, Bekaert repurchased 585 000 of its own shares at an average price of € 61.039, of which 576 550 were canceled. During the exercise periods, 233 040 subscription rights were exercised and 233 040 new shares of the company were created. The number of shares decreased from 21 873 705 to 21 530 195. The total number of VVPR strips increased from 3 574 745 to 3 807 785 as a consequence of the conversion of subscription rights.

A total of 220 300 NV Bekaert SA shares were repurchased in 2004 at an average price of € 46.28 and subsequently cancelled, in order to avoid a possible future dilution of the voting rights of the existing shares as a result of the conversion of subscription rights into shares. Following the cancellation of the shares, the Articles of Association of NV Bekaert SA were amended accordingly.
