Five key skills

To build the background to our HR strategy discussions, we put a number of key questions to a broad selection of managers.

One of these was to ask what skills they identified as typical of Bekaert, and which they believed to be critical to our future success.

Our managers selected and defined five skills they considered ‘critical’ for management employees.

  • Customer focus is a skill that should be a part of everyone’s approach, whether or not they are in daily contact with external customers.
  • Self-management is based on the desire for learning that is the hallmark of every professional.
  • Innovation is an attitude that generates new ideas and challenges the status-quo.
  • Being result driven demands results year on year, and measuring up to ambitious targets.
  • Talent focus requires every supervisor to translate his team’s skills into practice. As a coach, he has to develop people and share the best of their talents with all divisions of the company.

These five skills are now part of the annual performance review of every one of our management employees worldwide. They define how Bekaert expects things to be done, and form a universal definition of our preferred way of working at Bekaert.
