Bekaert introduces EvoStep® worker and doffer wire for medium speed carding applications

Summary & download

When it comes to nonwoven carding, fiber retention is key.  However, not all processes have the same
requirements. To provide you with the best possible solution, Bekaert offers a wide range of worker and
doffer wires as well as our professional support on helping you choose the right solution to achieve your
production goals.

A passion for fiber control
For high speed carding processes Bekaert offers SiroLock®.  Its unique design features a step at the tip of
the wire allowing it to take up to 50% more fibers compared to conventional card wires. This feature
does not only significantly improve the carding efficiency and web quality, it also increases the
productivity of the card.

For medium carding speeds Bekaert developed an entirely new product: EvoStep®. This new
range of worker and doffer wires was specifically designed for indirect nonwoven manufacturing
processes where cross lapping and needle punching are typically used as bonding technology.  With
EvoStep® we are targeting carding of any natural and man‐made fibers as well as recycled material like
PET fibers, more specifically for the filtration, geotextile, automotive, carpet and bedding industry. The
unique design comprises a slant front angle under the overhanging tip of the tooth. Like SiroLock®, this
feature significantly improves the fiber retention while perfectly accommodating lower speed carding
processes. The benefits not only include a lower risk of fiber recycling, loading and melting, it also
reduces flying fibers, which leads to less consumption and lower waste. EvoStep® wires are easier to
clean and facilitate a smooth and quick start‐up of the card, limiting down‐time to an absolute
minimum.
