Asia Pacific

Bekaert has expanded rapidly in Asia Pacific in the past decade. Today, we operate some 35 plants and offices spread over China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and Australia.

The first steps in this region were set in Japan in 1971. Afterwards the activities expanded into Australia, China and India. The real expansion came with the booming China market conditions in the 1990s and more manifestly during the last decennium. Bekaert set up production platforms for a wide variety of steel wire, cord and rope products in Chongqing, Huizhou, Jiangyin, Qingdao, Shenyang, Suzhou, Weihai, Wuxi, Xinyu and Shanghai. Bekaert acquired a majority shareholding in a partnership with Southern Steel of Malaysia in 2013, hereby expanding its presence in South-East Asia. Also in Indonesia and India Bekaert is growing steadily. On 1 March 2015, Bekaert successfully completed the acquisition of a steel rope business in Newcastle, Australia.

In order to support product and process innovation in Asia, Bekaert established a Research and Development Center in Jiangyin, China and a Technical Center in Ranjangaon, India.
Just like in other regions, the production and sales platforms are organized geographically so that Bekaert can respond swiftly to customer demands. We offer them a broad portfolio of amongst others steel cord for tire reinforcement, fine cord for hoisting and timing belt applications, steel wires for springs and overhead conductors, filter media, flat and shaped wires, nylon coated wires, carding solutions, ropes for hoisting cranes and mining, sawing wire, Dramix® steel fibers, Fleximat® fabric for transportation belts, and many more.
