Fine Steel Cord

Fine steel cord is a Bekaert product with diameters in the range of 40 µm up to 175 µm.
Bekaert’s fine steel cords offer an excellent combination of high strength with outstanding flexibility. Because they are entirely made out of high carbon steel, the cords have the same properties as the steel they are made of. These main characteristics are a high modulus, or low elongation, and the absence of creep. The use of small filament diameters –down to 40 µm- also warrants a superior fatigue resistance.

The characteristics of Bekaert’s fine steel cords make them great tension members for the reinforcement of transmission belts. However, Bekaert’s fine steel cord is also used as reinforcement in a number of elastomeric products, and it could have the ideal characteristics for a number of new applications. Needless to say that the steel cords can also be used as such, without being incorporated in a matrix. On simple request a synthetic coating can be applied on the cords for design or functional purposes.
Bekaert continuously searches for and develops high performance steel cord to fit the exacting performance requirements of its customers.
