11 October 2005 Bekaert awarded a major order in environment-friendly gas filtration
Bekaert booked a € 4 million order with the Australian Alcan Gove, member of the worldwide Canadian aluminium producer Alcan. The Alcan Gove bauxite mine and alumina refinery is located on the Gove Peninsula in Australia. From this location, Alcan Gove supplies its products to the international aluminium industry.
Mr Pierre Harrington, Project Manager at Alcan, commented: “We have chosen to use Bekaert filters elements based on metal fibres in our refinery process, because they allow environment-friendly gas filtration. They have very low emissions. They offer high reliability and lifetime and have a compact and robust filter design. Bekaert supported us throughout the project to define the best available technology to respond to our stringent demands.”
With annual sales of € 50 million, Bekaert has a long track record in fibre technologies and is market leader in the production of ultra-thin metal fibres, mainly in stainless steel. The company develops its various applications in filter media and in conductive plastics and textiles. Recently, Bekaert acquired Southwest Screens & Filters, a leading player in filter applications for the polymer industry.
This order requires several months of production at Bekaert’s facility in Wevelgem (Belgium) and will be delivered in the beginning of 2006.
Georges Brys, Group Executive Vice President, added: “This important order is the result of a fruitful cooperation and partnership with Alcan Gove. It illustrates Bekaert’s dedication to offer added value solutions based on our technological strengths in environment-friendly filtration.”
