Bekaert engineer receives TAI Young Tunneller of the Year AwardMr. Chandan Vaidya, General Sales Manager at Bekaert Mukand Wire Industries in India has won the 2017 TAI Young Tunneller of the Year Award. He received the honors for his contributions to introducing concrete steel fiber reinforcement to the segmental lining market in India. His efforts played an important role in the construction of the Chennai Metro tunnel in Tamil Nadu.

The TAI Young Tunneller award is one of the most prestigious awards given to tunnellers for making significant contributions to the tunneling industry. The jury judges the nominee’s on their ability to:

  • drive their team, project or business to technical or commercial success;
  • deliver beyond the client's expectation;
  • commit to improving the tunnelling industry;
  • make tangible differences to the environment in which they operate.

By introducing steel fiber reinforcement to the Chennai Metro project, contractors were able to speed up the construction process while providing optimal reinforcement to the segmental lining of the tunnels.

Mr. Chandan Vaidya has 16 years of experience in the industry and is a lifetime member of TAI India where he represents the shotcrete workgroup. He received the award on 9th February, 2017 by Dr. Mangu Singh, President of the Tunnelling Association of India, for his outstanding contribution to the Indian building industry in the past years.
