Rock protection strands

Rock protection strands
Our rock protection strands are used to create nets that secure irregular and unstable rock formations. The strands stay strong in harsh weather conditions. They can resist the impact from sliding and falling rocks. This high-tensile, steel wire strand is easy to process without losing its mechanical properties.

Keeping it strong

Made from 3 or 7 high carbon steel wires, Bekaert’s rock protection strands are the combination of high tensile strength with excellent ductility. Creates a strong and effective barrier against sliding landmasses.

Protected against the elements

Our strands are made from final galvanized or redrawn Bezinal®, Bezinal®2000 and Bezinal®3000 coated wires.  The coatings protect the wires against harsh weather conditions and extreme temperatures.

Withstands heavy processing

Bekaert’s rock protection strands are easy to process.  They withstand demanding downstream processing and deformation without losing their mechanical properties. The strands are produced according to EN-10264-2 specifications.  For customers with stranding capabilities, the wires are available separately.

  • Improves the impact resistance of your netting
  • Durable and safe even in extreme environments
  • Withstands intense deformation and processing
  • Strand wires available separately

  • better together

Situation Ultra-strong and length-stable material is needed to reinforce synchronous belts which drive wind turbine blades.

Solution A high-quality steel cord comprised of 83 twisted wires.

Result Optimum tensile strength, length stability and adhesion with the rubber belt providing the wind turbine manufacturer with a substantially lighter, maintenance-free and space-saving solution.

Situation Skiers count on safety when they go up the mountain

Solution In close cooperation Bekaert developed superior quality wires that meet the technical customer requirements of ropeway constructors

Result The customer handles the production of the cables, but also on-site weaving (or splicing) and installation. The cables have a life expectancy up to 40 years
