Dramix® steel fibers add the right characteristics to your concrete lining to meet the high demands of modern tunnel construction. To increase the reliability and service-life of your concrete linings, our fibers have been designed to increase crack control under high pressure and to minimize spalling at the connecting joints.

Optimal reinforcement and easy, time-saving handling

Steel fiber reinforcement provides multidirectional reinforcement, protecting the edges of your concrete segments against spalling forces.  The fibers improve the crack resistance of your concrete structures, making them safer and more reliable over the entire span of their service life.  They are easy to use as they can be directly mixed into the concrete. This eliminates the time and labor needed to transport and install traditional mesh or rebar.  Steel fiber reinforcement in precast segmental lining eliminates the costs of making and handling of reinforcement cages.

Why Dramix® for this application?

Dramix® steel fibers are designed to achieve a stronger anchorage and to balance optimal wire properties such as shape, strength, and ductility. This results in previously unseen levels in concrete performance. Concrete reinforced with the latest generation of Dramix® steel fibers even exhibit strain hardening in bending. The fibers also minimize the risk of spalling at the connecting joints, which reduces the permeability of your concrete lining. Because the fibers are coated with an environmentally friendly rust inhibitor, they assure a smooth, corrosion-free surface and high durability. Dramix® steel fibers create a very high energy absorption rate in the concrete, providing great flexural toughness.

Proven performance

The university of Rome ‘Tor Vergata’ performed several beam and large scale bending tests on precast concrete segments reinforced with Dramix® 4D steel fibers to measure their resistance against bending and jack forces.

As can be seen in the following graphs the use of Dramix®4D significantly improves the load-bearing capacity of the precast segments.

The results showed hardening post crack behavior either on beam test and precast segment resulting in a better crack control and durability.
