The project entails the renovation of a runway and adjacent taxiway, and the construction of two roads for maintenance and patrol vehicles. The request of Porty Lotnicze, the National Group of Polish Airports, was clear: they needed a long-lasting, low-maintenance renovation solution. This solution was Mesh Track®.

The general contractor for this project is Budimex. This Polish company has been working with Bekaert and its products in similar projects before. These were the challenges they met with during the renovation at Warsaw Chopin Airport and the solutions they offered:

The challenge

“The works needed to be executed within a very tight time-frame without disrupting the airport’s operations. The speedy construction should not affect the quality of the renovation, and needs to withstand high impact and constant traffic for the next three decades or longer.”

The solution

We have been using Mesh Track® road reinforcement in several other runway renovation projects. Mesh Track® is a steel-based woven steel netting for structural road renovations. It is easy and fast to work with and known for its long-lasting performance. In other words, Mesh Track® ticked all the boxes for this project.”

“Using Mesh Track®, we were able to renovate several sections of the airport platform, about 90 000 m² in total.

Bekaert’s partner in Poland, Gruppo Bitumi, cooperated with ITWL (Instytut Techniczny Wojsk Lotniczych), a renowned Polish technical advisor military and cicil airports, to verify that Mesh Track® meets the requirements for this project. Mesh Track® aced the evaluation and received the certificate for airport renovation
