Bekaert introduces Dramix® Loop™, its most sustainable steel fiber to date and a major milestone in circular construction. With this launch, Bekaert becomes the first in the industry to produce steel fibers from end-of-life tires at an industrial scale, significantly reducing the carbon footprint of concrete reinforcement.
Dramix® Loop™ builds on 50 years of leadership and long-standing performance of Bekaert’s Dramix® brand. While existing Dramix® steel fibers for concrete reinforcement already enable up to 20% less concrete, 50% less steel, and up to 35% lower CO₂ emissions compared to traditional reinforcement solutions, Dramix® Loop™ sets a new sustainability benchmark for the portfolio.
Made from high grade steel recovered from end-of-life tire cords, Dramix® Loop™ addresses one of the tire industry’s biggest challenges: circularity. Bekaert’s innovative process preserves the steel’s inherent tensile strength and eliminates carbon-intensive reprocessing, resulting in a near zero carbon footprint with a Global Warming Potential of only 0.0436 kg CO₂eq per kg.
Eric Peeters, Divisional CEO Sustainable Construction: “Just like our other Dramix® products, Dramix® Loop™ ticks all the boxes: safe, smart, and sustainable. It’s less labor-intensive, reduces CO₂ up to 80% compared to traditional reinforcement, and leverages our structural design capabilities. And the circular aspect adds even more value, because with end-of-life steel, the carbon footprint is close to zero.”
Maximizing performance, minimizing environmental impact
Dramix Loop supports LEED, BREEAM, and EU Taxonomy compliance and contributes to Scope 3 emission reductions, helping owners and developers meet ESG goals. The steel fibers deliver reliable performance with very low contamination levels and a high tensile strength, making them ideal for concrete reinforcement for industrial flooring, precast elements, sprayed concrete, UHPC applications and other.
