High-end flat blade wire for windshield wiper systems

Flat blade wire may sit out of sight, but its impact is felt every time a wiper sweeps across a windshield. For wiper system manufacturers, that small component has to do a lot.

You want it to support consistent performance, simplify assembly, and hold up across markets, climates, and cost pressures. Bekaert flat blade wire is designed for that reality – helping you produce and deliver dependable wiper systems without adding complexity to your operation.

A smarter starting point for flat blade design

Bekaert flat blade wire is supplied as a high-strength flat steel wire strand on a spool. From this single wire, customers produce mono spline (one wire) or dual spline (two parallel wires) configurations for flat (beam-style) windshield wiper systems used in both new vehicle production and the aftermarket.

The flat geometry and Bezalplast® coating provide the right balance of strength, flexibility, and corrosion resistance. Once formed into mono or dual spline designs, the wire enables the flexible bow that gives flat blade systems their even pressure distribution, compact design, and aerodynamic profile.

A broad range of dimensions and steel grades is available, with additional sizes offered on request to match specific spline designs and production requirements.

Good wiping starts beneath the rubber

When wiping performance falls short, it’s rarely just the rubber that’s at fault. Uneven pressure, vibration, or lift can quickly turn a well-designed blade into a noisy or streaking one.

Bekaert flat blade wire forms a flexible bow that maintains consistent contact across the full length of the blade. This supports:

  • Even pressure distribution along the windshield
  • Reduced wind lift at higher speeds
  • Lower noise and vibration during operation

The result? Clear visibility in real driving conditions with fewer performance-related issues once vehicles leave the factory or enter the replacement market.

Assembly, simplified.

Flat blade systems were introduced to simplify wiper design. The wire inside them should support that goal, not complicate it.

Bekaert flat blade wire is optimized for market-standard flat blade production lines. It integrates smoothly into existing forming and assembly processes, supporting consistent output without requiring adjustments to established setups.

Fewer components compared to traditional framed designs mean:

  • Reliable forming of mono or dual spline configurations
  • Fewer handling steps on the production line
  • Stable, repeatable assembly processes
  • Lighter final wiper systems

Where margins are tight and volumes are high, compatibility and consistency matter as much as performance.

Because wipers don’t live in ideal conditions

Wiper systems operate in one of the most exposed areas of a vehicle. Heat, cold, moisture, chemicals, and road salt are all part of daily life.

Our flat blade wire is protected by Bezalplast®: a coating that combines an advanced zinc-aluminum layer with a PET topcoat. This provides strong corrosion resistance and helps the wire maintain its mechanical properties over time.

For manufacturers, that means:

  • Strong coating adhesion between the zinc-aluminum coating and PET layer, ideal for welded connector applications
  • Reliable performance across climates and regions
  • Reduced risk of coating damage or premature corrosion
  • Components that hold up throughout the intended service life

This is durability designed for the real-world.

Support that goes beyond the component

Supplying flat blade wire is only part of the job. Keeping production on track (across plants, regions, and programs) takes more than a reliable component.

At Bekaert, we combine global production with local sales and technical teams, enabling flexible capacity planning and dependable delivery. When issues arise, you work with people who know your operation and act quickly.

R&D teams support optimization, co-development, next-generation flat blade designs, and sustainable options like Green Steel, so you can meet today’s demands while preparing for what’s next.
