Bezinox®: The smart switch for subsea cable armouring

The demands on subsea HVAC cables are only increasing: better performance, longer lifetime, and a lower carbon footprint. But corrosion and energy losses in traditional armouring wires still hold many designs back.

Bezinox® solves both issues with a fresh approach – combining non-magnetic stainless steel with a heavy-duty zinc coating to give cable manufacturers and designers more efficiency, more protection, and fewer trade-offs.

Available in both flat and round profiles, Bezinox® offers cable manufacturers full flexibility to optimize performance across a range of demanding subsea applications, from export cables in offshore wind farms to short distance interconnectors and coastal installations.

Built to perform where others corrode

Bezinox® is a galvanized, non-magnetic stainless steel wire developed to armour subsea HVAC and MVAC power cables in offshore wind farms and interconnection projects. With the offshore cable industry demanding higher ampacity, lower losses, and better reliability in harsh marine environments, Bezinox® addresses those needs directly.

By combining austenitic stainless steel with a high-performance zinc alloy coating, Bezinox® significantly extends the operational life of cable systems, especially in crevice-prone or stagnant seawater conditions. The result is an armouring solution that maintains mechanical strength, resists corrosion, and improves system efficiency without forcing changes to existing cable designs.

Lower magnetic losses. Higher efficiency.

Traditional steel wire armouring can introduce significant magnetic losses, especially in HVAC applications where alternating currents induce eddy currents. These losses lower cable ampacity, increase overall temperatures, and ultimately shorten the cable's service life.

Bezinox® avoids these issues by using a non-magnetic stainless steel with a magnetic permeability of less than 5 µr – dramatically reducing the generation of eddy currents. This enables designers to optimize for higher electrical loads, cable profiles, or longer distances without thermal penalties.

  • Low magnetic permeability (< 5 µr) prevents eddy current losses
  • Supports higher cable ampacity without overheating
  • Reduces cable cross-sections by up to 16% (depends on project parameters), cutting material usage and emissions

KEMA Labs white paper

According to tests conducted at KEMA Labs, Bezinox® armouring can lower core cable temperatures by 2.5°C to 4.2°C – a critical factor in increasing cable longevity and system reliability.

Crevice corrosion? Not a chance.

Stainless steel is often the preferred material in marine environments – but in stagnant seawater or tight crevices between armouring wires, even high-grade stainless steel can corrode over time (PREN <40). Crevice and pitting corrosion are common causes of premature cable failure.

Bezinox® is specifically engineered to solve this. It uses a hot-dip galvanized zinc alloy coating that not only provides an initial corrosion barrier but also delivers long-term cathodic protection. This means the zinc alloy coating will actively protect the stainless steel underneath, even if scratched or damaged.

  • A hot-dip zinc alloy coating for cathodic protection
  • Proven resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion (4-year test at l’Institut de la Corrosion)
  • No galvanic risk from mixed steel types – eliminating the chance of accelerated corrosion from dissimilar metals

This protection ensures Bezinox® cables stay intact longer, require less maintenance, and offer better predictability over their operating lifespan.

Design flexibility. Supply you can count on.

Every cable design has its own challenges – from mechanical strength and torsion tolerance to weldability and machine compatibility. Bezinox® was created to fit easily into existing production lines while giving designers the performance advantages of a non-magnetic, corrosion-resistant wire.

  • Flat and round wire formats to match your geometry and load distribution needs
  • Smooth surface for easier processing, consistent feeding, and strong welds
  • Compatible with standard armouring and extrusion equipment
  • Full technical support, including welding academy access, corrosion research, and parameter optimization

Whether you’re launching a new cable design or fine-tuning an existing one, Bezinox® ensures you have both the materials and the guidance to make it successful.
